2021 Advent Calendar

Welcome to the seventh Law and Lease advent calendar.

If you have followed all of the advent calendars, the windows that you will have opened will total one gross, a measurement that Bilbo Baggins rather indelicately used to describe his 144 guests in the opening chapter of The Lord of the Rings, before vanishing into thin air and retirement in the Last Homely House East of the Sea.

If, on the other hand, this is the first time that you have come across my annual numbers-based perambulation through the year’s events, you can catch up with the first six years. Here are 2015; 2016; 2017; 2018; 2019 and 2020. All of the windows on those calendars are open, but in real time the advent calendar works in the same way as any other. The windows will open one by one throughout December: each window contains a pocket-sized review of an event, case or piece of legislation that cropped up in 2021.

This year, the calendar may appear in two different guises. Over the past few months, I have been working – or at least some very patient web designers have been working – on a new look for Law & Lease. The new website – I’m going to call it a website rather than a blog – is going to be lighter, brighter, more user-friendly and, most importantly, *faster* to load. There’s going to be a new logo too.

If all goes well, the new website should go live some time around 13 December, and the advent calendar will be the first post that you will see on it.

Update, 24 December: the new website will land in the New Year, and I’m really looking forward to it, now that I can see the draft version reaching its polishing stage. I used the new logo on the materials for the case law round-up on 08 December, and my (unscientific) survey of it was very positive. I wish you a very merry festive season!
